I never thought I'd be the kind of person to get excited about wall art, let alone a ceramic flower. But here I am, staring at this violet blue-colored creation like it holds the secrets of the universe. It's about the size of my hand, which is convenient because I can cradle it and pretend I'm some sort of botanist-turned-art-critic. The flower is a fleur de lis mum, which sounds fancy enough to impress my sister, who once dated a mathematician. I imagine her nodding approvingly, "How avant-garde." As if she knows what that means any more than I do.
